Running from Pacific Highway all the way to the harbour where it culminates in the idyllic bushland of Balls Head Reserve, Waverton is a sough-after peninsula suburb 4km north of the CBD. It was named in 1929 after the Waverton Estate of an early resident, Robert Old.
Waverton has a great village atmosphere with a collection of charming shops around the railway station, including the ubiquitous supermarket, bottle shop and chemist along with a few multicultural restaurants and fashionable cafes such as the much-loved Grumpy Baker.

The peninsula bushland of Balls Head Reserve is a one-way road system and a popular walking route with many paths to explore. People flock here to picnic and get a great vantage point for the New Year's Eve fireworks. Waverton Park on the banks of Berrys Bay is another much-loved recreational focal point while the naval base HMAS Waterhen lays claim to a significant tract of land on Balls Head Bay.
There are many remnants of the local indigenous population, including a large rock carving of a whale adjacent to the heritage-listed Coal Loader, waterholes, engravings and grinding grooves.
