Warrawee, NSW 2074
Warrawee is a small, leafy suburb loved by families for its generous homes on large parcels of land, many from the Federation and post-war eras, often with sprawling gardens and pools.
Plenty of contemporary townhouses and apartments have also sprung up to cater to the downsizer and investor markets.
While Warrawee itself has no commercial hub, neighbouring Turramurra has you covered. A number of multicultural restaurants, cafes and takeaways are dotted around the hub by Turramurra train station, including the locals' favourite haunt Kipling's Garage Bar, a lively industrial chic venue in a former garage serving inventive tapas and craft beer. There's also a local shopping village on the east side of Turramurra known as the Eastern Road shops where you'll find an IGA, bottle shop, grocer and the much-loved Pottery Green Bakers.
To the north you've also got Wahroonga's main shopping hub, home to supermarkets and eateries including The Butcher's Block. People also flock to Café Patina which overlooks Wahroonga Park. With its gorgeous manicured gardens, playground and rotunda, the park plays host to the popular annual Twilight Concert series.
There is no shortage of recreational attractions on offer around Warrawee, from parks and playgrounds to sporting amenities. Beautiful Turramurra Memorial Park is a multi-purpose sports facility with cricket nets, an athletics track, tennis courts, soccer/rugby field, a playground and clubhouse. If you love a picturesque bush walk, follow the Twin Creeks and Browns Field Track along the creek line as you meander through beautiful rainforest, eucalypt forest and tall blackbutts. With the idyllic Lane Cove River meandering through it, nearby Lane Cove National Park provides a treasure trove of activities to enjoy, from hiking and picnicking to kayaking, row boating and camping.
Still a focal point of community life after more than a century, the Warrawee Bowling Club is a welcoming environment to enjoy a game of barefoot bowls, a cold beer or host private functions. Located on Kissing Point Road and serving the Sydney Sikh community, the Guru Nanak Gurudwara Turramurra Sikh Temple lies nearby, with its ornate interiors and leafy setting.
You'll also find yourself close to the Sydney Adventist Hospital, an acute-care private hospital with more than 700 beds, making it the largest private and largest not-for-profit hospital in NSW.
Warrawee has its own primary school, Warrawee Public School, while plenty of highly regarded schools, both public and private, are located in nearby suburbs. These include Knox Grammar, Knox Grammar Preparatory School, Wahroonga Preparatory School, Abbotsleigh, Wahroonga Adventist School, St Leo's Catholic College and Prouille Catholic Primary School, along with St Edmund's School and St Lucy's School, both for students with disabilities. There is also a wide selection of pre-schools available.
Featuring its own railway station, Warrawee is well serviced by public transport, with a train ride to Wynyard station in the CBD taking less than 40 minutes. Buses take you to both Chatswood and the city along with the surrounding suburbs. Located near the beginning of the F3 Freeway to Newcastle, Warrawee also enjoys easy access to the Central Coast.
