Greenery envelops you, with a total of 32 parks covering a significant 25% of its area. Garigal National Park runs along its eastern border while Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park lies to the north. In 1788, Governor Arthur Phillip established a small timber felling operation in the area and today you can still enjoy the 30m+ trees that remain as a reminder of this history.

Residential development hit its peak in St Ives in the '60s, fueled largely by post-war migrants, and much of this architecture still remains, albeit upgraded for modern living. Added to the mix are some impressive contemporary homes along with townhouses and apartments that cater to the downsizers market.

St Ives has a great community vibe, largely thanks to its focal point of St Ives Village Shopping Centre, which has more than 100 shops. Along with anchor tenants Harris Farm, IGA and Woolworths you'll find cafes, food outlets, fashion and specialty stores.

Across the road, St Ives Village Green is one of the area's premier sports facilities, equipped with baseball diamonds, floodlit tennis courts, a skate park and playground. It also hosts a range of community events throughout the year, including the annual Festival on the Green, a family day of fun, food and entertainment.

One of Sydney's best kept secrets, the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden is 123 hectares of glorious urban bushland ideal for bush walking, picnicking and special events. Dalrymple-Hay Nature Reserve is one of the last remaining blue gum high forests in Sydney, offering walking and bird watching in an unspoilt bushland setting. Golfing enthusiasts can play 18 picturesque holes at the prestigious Pymble Golf Club, actually located in St Ives.

Held on the first Sunday of every month at the St Ives Showground, the St Ives Markets and Heritage Craft Fair (also known as the St Ives Handmade Markets) is the perfect place to pick up unique handcrafted goods and fresh produce. As Ku-ring-gai's largest sports and recreation venue, the showground boasts equestrian and dog training rings, a soccer field and BMX riding facilities. It's also the venue for the annual St Ives Medieval Faire.

St Ives has an abundance of great schools, both public and private, reflecting the family oriented nature of the area. For preschoolers there's the option of St Ives Preschool Kindergarten, Christ Church St Ives Preschool and St Ives Occasional Care.
