South Turramurra, NSW 2074
Bordered to the west by the spectacular natural beauty of the Lane Cove National Park, South Turramurra is a leafy, serene place to call home and a little slice of recreational paradise.
This small locale became a separate suburb to Turramurra in 1994.
Graced with large home on generous blocks, many of which have been revamped by the young families moving into the area, its median household weekly income was $2,564, compared to the national median of $1,438 according to the 2016 Census, and the great majority (98.2%) of occupied private dwellings were separate houses. Land releases in the last few years have added a number of new houses, which have also been bought by young families.
With the idyllic Lane Cove River meandering through it, the Lane Cove National Park provides a treasure trove of outdoor activities to enjoy, from hiking and picnicking to kayaking, row boating and camping.
Auluba Oval is home to the Kissing Point Sports Club, which includes Kissing Point Baseball Club, Kissing Point Cricket Club, Kissing Point Football Club, Kissing Point Netball Club and Kissing Point Softball Club, making it a wonderful community focal point for sports lovers of all ages. The Canoon Road Recreation Area is the local destination for netball and tennis, with 25 netball courts, five tennis courts and barbeques right at the edge of Lane Cove National Park. This area also marks the start of one of the area's many picturesque walking tracks, the Step Track. A glorious stroll through the Lane Cove valley, this relatively short trail explores a variety of bushland, passing a scenic lookout and waterfall.
South Turramurra has its own classic local shopping village on Kissing Point Road where you'll find the fashionable, much-loved cafe Vertical Espresso, an IGA, a bakery, post office, petrol station, pizza shop and pharmacy, among other services. The Kissing Point Progress Association (KPPA), a group of community volunteers representing the local South Turramurra area, has long proposed for the council to help transform this shopping precinct into a dynamic economic and social hub and create a village green.
Nearby, Turramurra's main commercial centre is concentrated around the train station along Pacific Highway and Rohini Street. Here you'll find all of your day-to-day needs including IGA and Coles supermarkets, bakeries, grocers, specialty stores, services such as banks and the Turramurra Library. You'll enjoy a number of multicultural restaurants, cafes and takeaways, including the locals' favourite haunt Kipling's Garage Bar, a lively industrial chic bar in a former garage serving inventive tapas and craft beer. For some serious retail therapy, you can also take a short drive to the major shopping and entertainment hub, the Macquarie Centre.
Families are drawn to the great local schools here. In South Turramurra itself you'll find Turramurra High School while the suburb lies within the catchment for nearby Turramurra Public School. Close by you'll also find Northside Montessori School, Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, the exclusive secondary schools Pymble Ladies' College and Knox Grammar School, and Avondale University College which offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate coursework and research programs.
