North Turramurra, NSW 2074

North Turramurra is a heavily forested haven sitting on a narrow enclave between Lovers Jump Creek and Cowan Creek, both of which flow to the sea through the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

Its unspoiled wooded valleys bless residents with common sightings of a wide variety of native wildlife and you can often see wallabies hopping around the backyards of its substantial properties.

It became a separate suburb from Turramurra when it was officially gazetted in 1994. According to Domain, 92% of residents are owners and just 8% renters, one of the highest figures for any suburb (Nov 2019).

North Turramurra is home to the Sphinx Memorial in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, a 1.5m high replica of the Great Sphinx of Egypt. It was carved from sandstone in the 1920s by returned soldier William Shirley in memory of fallen comrades and you can explore some interesting Australian military history along the beautiful Sphinx Track. The area is a renowned starting point for bushwalkers given its easy access to Bobbin Head, the upper reaches of Cowan Creek and St Ives Chase.

Bobbin Head Road is home to a welcoming local shopping village where you'll find an IGA supermarket, post office, bottle store, dentist and more. There's also a great little multicultural dining scene happening locally, with a number of popular cafes and restaurants. Drop into breakfast hot spot Twenty74, sample the mouthwatering cakes at Cafe Trilogy, enjoy the stylish ambience of The Cook's Garden or the relaxed atmosphere of its adjoining café/bar The Garden Tap, designed in the style of a classic English pub. Hit up Happyland Asian Cuisine for traditional Asian fare or tuck into pizza at Farina Pizzeria.

North Turramurra has two schools – Turramurra North Public School and Ku-ring-gai High School. It's also the site of an official Bureau of Meteorology rainfall observation station. Set on the edge of the beautiful Ku-ring-gai National Park, Lady Davidson Private Hospital is one of the largest private dedicated rehabilitation hospitals in Australia.

Local buses take you to Turramurra train station on the North Shore & Western line, which takes you to Chatswood in 16 minutes and the city in 35 minutes.
