Containing many quiet cul-de-sac streets, this diminutive enclave is defined by its idyllic bushland setting, with the entire neighbourhood enveloped by the lush green expanse of Garigal National Park. Consequently, it offers a real sense of sanctuary, despite being just 30 minutes from the city.

Given the large blocks and generous residences, it's no surprise that East Killara is a popular choice for families. An aerial view will show you that about half of the houses have pools, so you can envision the classic Aussie summer lifestyle in full swing here.

Local life is all about recreation, with so much wonderful parkland and bushland to explore. If you're feeling active, the 6km East Killara Track follows service trails and bush tracks through Garigal National Park and along Middle Harbour Creek. In fact, there are a number of trails that meander through different parts of the national park, often converging, with some taking you through remote areas that require a little experience.

Green open spaces such as Bushranger Reserve, Lindfield Oval, Allan Small Park and Soldiers Memorial Park provide idyllic spaces for relaxation, recreation and exercise. East Killara has a wonderful sense of community, with your classic local shopping village as its focal point, located on the main drag Koola Avenue. Reminiscent of days gone by, East Killara Shopping Centre is home to the ubiquitous café, bakery, pharmacy, minimart, bottle shop, GP, hairdresser and the like, meaning you don't have to go far for all of your daily essentials.

Killara station lies on the North Shore railway line, with a journey to the retail hub of Chatswood taking just eight minutes and a trip to the CBD taking less than 30 minutes. A number of bus routes along Koola Avenue and Birdwood Avenue provide easy access to the surrounding suburbs.

The profusion of highly regarded local primary, secondary and pre-schools reflects the family orientation of the area. Killara High School lies within East Killara and regularly ranks among Sydney's top non-selective government secondary schools while Montessori Excelsior School, Highfields Preparatory & Kindergarten School and Masada College regularly rank among the top five non-government primary schools.
