Dee Why, NSW 2099

From its golden arc of beach and tranquil lagoon to its busy retail centre and lively beachfront dining scene, Dee Why is a bustling hub of the Northern Beaches.

While once one of its more affordable suburbs, Dee Why has been in a constant state of transformation over recent years, with an abundance of new apartments, civic spaces and shops making it increasingly popular with young professionals and families. A friendly local vibe still exists here, with plenty of loyal lifelong residents who'd never live anywhere else.

With a point break that some consider the best in the area, Dee Why Beach is a family friendly destination with Dee Why Rockpool at its southern end, encompassing a 50m ocean pool and toddlers pool. Stoll or cycle along the Corso or picnic on the manicured lawns and take in the beachfront atmosphere.

Dee Why Lagoon Wildlife Refuge forms Dee Why's northern border, providing a wonderful recreational resource where you can walk or cycle. This 47ha of remnant bushland and wetlands features habitat for endangered migratory birds as well as several species of endangered ecological communities.

Follow the Dee Why to Curl Curl Coastal Walk along the Dee Why Headland and enjoy incredible views from Gahnia Lookout, named after the clumping grass commonly found here. From the rugged sandstone headland you can gaze south to Manly and north to Long Reef and beyond. On an outcrop overhanging the beach, the obelisk was erected in 1917 and inscribed with the names of 10 men who died during World War I.

The beachfront is lined with a large selection of cafes, restaurants, bars and shops which bring plenty of life to the area day and night. The main concentration of retail stores lies along Pittwater Road, where you'll find shopping centres such as Dee Why Grand and Dee Why Village Plaza and everything from supermarkets and dining to specialty stores. Dee Why Library is also found here. Locals flock to Stony Range Regional Botanic Garden, a hidden oasis of Australian native plants and the perfect place for a picnic.

Along with Dee Why Public School, Catholic school St Luke's Grammar is found in the suburb along special needs institution Fisher Road School.

The B-Line bus service that runs through Dee Why has made travelling to the city or anywhere along the beaches easier than ever, and there are many additional bus routes servicing areas such as Chatswood and Frenchs Forest.
