Cammeray, NSW 2062
Just one set of traffic lights and 5km to the city, harbourside Cammeray has that coveted village feel with all of the convenience of inner urban living.
You can avoid the traffic of surrounding areas and get into town in 10 minutes. Everyone from young professionals to families and older long-time locals call this suburb home, attracted by its peaceful, leafy, undulating streets, glorious parks and its proximity to everything you need to make life a pleasure.
Cammeray takes its name from the Cammeraygal people, an Aboriginal clan who once occupied the Lower North Shore. Shell middens and rock art found locally indicate that Aboriginals used the creek as a source of fresh water.
Architecture-wise Cammeray offers a combination of appealing pre-war freestanding homes and semis along with older-style character apartments and more contemporary additions to the landscape. Its hilly terrain affords so many of them glorious views over the surrounding treetops, parks and the picturesque inlets of Middle Harbour that form Cammeray's eastern border.
The main artery of Miller Street is where you'll find its bustling local shopping hub, lined with cafes, restaurants, specialty stores and Cammeray Square shopping centre, with its central plaza and eateries. Around the corner, North Sydney Rugby League Club, now simply known as Norths, offers family friendly dining, event spaces and a great gym. Cammeray Road also has a small but charming cluster of local shops and cafes, from which you can enjoy the spectacle of the jacaranda trees in all their glory.
A substantial portion of this suburb is devoted to the manicured green expanse of Cammeray Golf Club, next to which sits the Cammeray Tennis Club and Cammeray Croquet Club.
Enjoy the serene, leafy harbourside surrounds of Tunks Park. Set against a backdrop of dense natural bushland, it's loved by families for its playground, playing fields, walking tracks and boat ramp. Beautiful Primrose Park in neighbouring Cremorne borders Cammeray, with its sportsground, tennis courts and walking trails. Follow the Primrose Park Walking Track around the harbour to Folly Point on the tip of the peninsula. Boating enthusiasts can moor their vessels at deepwater Cammeray Marina on Long Bay, setting sail on Middle Harbour which is a delight for boating and fishing.
Local schools are held in high regard, including Cammeray Public School and ANZAC Park Public School, with the local secondary school Cammeraygal High School located in neighbouring Crows Nest.
Public transport is provided by bus with Cammeray being the last south-bound stop for services to the Sydney CBD via the Warringah Freeway. Buses to North Sydney, Milsons Point and Crows Nest are also available.
